Real are reckoned to be closing in on a move for the 18-year-old hotshot with reports yesterday suggesting that Zinedine Zidane had persuaded the Monaco player to make the move to the Bernabeu.
Liverpool, Arsenal and Real are among the clubs that have been connected with the forward, with the La Liga champions now winning the race after French publication L’Equipe claimed that phone conversations between Zidane and the player had gone extremely well, plus a reported pay rise of 900%.
If Zidane does manage to eventually get his grip on Mbappe, who netted 26 goals in all competitions last season, then AS reports the club will have no other option than to sell one player - Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema or Bale - with Bale considered to be the one to be sacrificed.
Real Madrid are understood to be ready to allow the former Tottenham man to go in a bid to get Mbappe and Manchester United seems to be the first option for Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett.
Paris Saint-Germain are also believed to be monitoring Bale, who was a target for United in 2012 before he signed an £85milliom move to the Spanish giants in September 2013.
Bale though is not keen on a move to Ligue 1, although Spanish outlet Diario Gol suggest Real see PSG as the perfect club to sell Bale to.
Bale’s agent Barnett has apparently made it clear to Madrid president Florentino Perez that his client will not entertain a move to France, leaving United and Chelsea seemingly heading the queue line for Bale in the Premier League.
The 27-year-old, who extended his contract until 2022 in October, made just 27 appearances, scoring nine goals after missing more than half of the season with hip, calf and ankle issues.
United will have to stump up for the player and make him their most expensive signing ever with regards to wages.
Paul Pogba is the highest earner at Old Trafford on £290,000 a week, but if Jose Mourinho is truly considering the left-sided forward – his contract in Madrid is reportedly worth £600,000 per week, £350,000 after tax – and he will be looking for a similar pay day to return to England.
